ABOUT THE COMMISSION

Asian philanthropy is entering a new phase alongside the region’s rapid economic development and rising wealth. Home to 60% of the world’s population, Asia faces environmental and social challenges that require collaboration across sectors. Strengthening philanthropic knowledge, practices, infrastructure, and ecosystems can help mobilise private resources to work more effectively alongside public efforts in addressing these needs.

The Commission on Asian Philanthropy (“the Commission”) brings together leading philanthropic funders across the region for a multi-year effort to map the current state of Asian philanthropy, study various philanthropic growth models, and engage policymakers and institutions. This work will culminate in a report outlining strategies and investment roadmaps to strengthen domestic philanthropic ecosystems across Asia — offering actionable guidance to funders and partners committed to advancing systemic change through philanthropy.

Vision

An accelerated change in the trajectory [the quantum and quality] of Asian philanthropy to unleash its full potential toward more inclusive and sustainable societies.

Mission

To advance the “in Asia, for Asia” definitions, models, and ecosystems of philanthropy to professionalise the philanthropic sector in the region and expand its influence as a mainstream partner for systemic change.
